Elect Liberals to Lib Dem Committees!

Now more than ever the UK needs a liberal party to give the electorate a sane alternative to authoritarian excesses from whichever direction they might come. But a liberal party needs to be run by liberals. For far too long Lib Dem governing bodies have prioritised the suppression of debate over the facilitation of it, and the interests of certain groups to the exclusion of others. This has created an environment dominated by groupthink resulting in untested, unscrutinised policies that are hard to sell to the electorate.

Today, Lib Dem members have the opportunity to change the governance of the Federal Party, with all Federal Committees up for re-election. Among those who are standing are experienced, talented candidates who share the aims of our group and are campaigning on a platform of free speech, equality and genuine inclusion.

The Thornhill Review noted that “we have become very good at talking to ourselves about the things we like to talk about. This has come at the expense of constantly thinking about what ‘normal’ people care about and building everything we do around trying to help them.”

We believe the people of the UK would support a liberal party that understands their priorities, values and enables free debate, is up-front about its policies and treats its members with decency and respect.
